Electricity Consumers Begin Payment For Meters

The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) has kicked off a new metering scheme in which customers are to pay for meters known as the Credited Advance Payment for Metering Implementation (CAPMI).
The Commission has directed electricity distribution companies (DISCOs) to commence implementation of the new metering scheme today after the initial plan to meter consumers freely failed.
The Commission explained that it adopted the CAPMI initiative due to the slow pace of customer metering by the DISCOs as well as the high level of complaints received from customers and dissatisfaction with the current estimated billing practices.
This is even as the Commission has ordered the Discos to immediately begin the supply of electricity meters paid for by customers dating back to January 2011.
